Julian Write - Gatsby Album Review

Rarri Testarossa-
The beat starts off nice and slow and then picks up nicely. The hook then brings the feeling of having really big goals to the intro of the album.... sounds as if he's yearning for his dreams as if it's his last resort... his flow is subtle yet aggressive, it reminds me of some early classic Julian flow off MCM... very dope feeling/vibe and catchy
Stand Out Line: "They tell you not to brag and not to boast, you know I'm petty so I gotta do the most"

30 under 30

Automatically I thought the hook was dope and original. Recently you hear talks of the 30s being the new 20s and the thought of conquering both eras is a very intriguing. This track can easily convince you that Julian Write already made and or will be making the Forbes list in the near future. The flow vibes perfectly with the beat and keeps the tone of high ambitions, you can steadily hear the hunger in the voice. It's also good to know he's been on the grind hustling thinking beyond rap but realizing it's abilities/capabilities. True entrepreneurs are able to look at things in a 360 degree view.             Stand Out Line: "Silicon Valley I founders for some friends and shit I use to have a job that had no benefits"

Run It Up

This track is catchy and it kind of reminds me of a chicago vibe when they did the trap pop or something very ATLish (which neither is a bad thing).  The thing I like most about this track is the way he owned it as his, just kept it true to his style and owned the beat, he didnt just ride the wave. Definitely something you can bump at a house party and or even at the club. Perfect tempo for the girlies & the dance fiends to bust some moves too. He kept it baller, player, real, and family friendly all in one lol

Stand Out Line: "I know the youth is the future so I invest in it"

Rey Mysterio
As a WWE fan I automatically was attracted to this track to be honest.  It has a subtle catchy piano in the back with a dope 808.  Once again he does his thing and owns the beat.  Flow was nice and catchy and the story telling esque on the track correlates with the Gatsby theme of having/achieving big dreams.  The track did feature a different structure with just 1 verse but it was a verse that kept your ears glued to the speaker.
"Mask on like I'm Rey Mysterio"

Head Honcho
The flutes are mesmerizing within the beginning and once it drops it has a very chill, go getter vibe.  Its another feel good track which has some catchy drums and 808s that bump. He made a statement within the hook which said "go to Grammys in a poncho" thats a head honcho move for sure (I like that #DJKhaledVoice)
Stand Out Line: "gang green, I been eating all my brocolli"

Hundred on a Sunday
Mayne this could make anyones head bop... very good track to vibe too, flow is perfect over it and the Adlibs are poppin.... very good track overall.  The flow is clean and bars are there as usual and he's very witty with the wordplay..The hook is also dope because who wouldn't wanna make 100k on a sunday
Stand Out Line:"Just got on a diet..I'm vegan, but if he want some beef then I'm cheatin"

......................................................

West Egg Freestyle

The beats dope, it's very well layered which he then complements with a very versatile flow.  He makes the necessary adjustments with his flow which switches up with the beat and matches it's energy which seems to bring out something within both. Very dope.......  Stand Out Line: "Id Rather be me with no funds, than to be you for 1 day"
Don't make em' shoot though

Remember When

As soon as I heard some keys I knew it was gonna be a classic and I was right... the four intro bars set the mood right (they're dope) which then get completed by a really dope drop of the beat and the main hook (which is very melodic and smooth)....  this is a track you just play driving home after a good day, just reminiscing off life and it's blessings, more high than lows but always true to yourself. I am biased as I feel tracks like this bring out the best Julian. All in on this track A++
PS: I could almost picture the bad little Peruvian chick he mentions

DOUBLE BACK
The vibe is dope and the beat is bumpin. "Wanted the dirty money, instead I went corporate, took a  few loses but i could afford them"  this line really stood out because it shows the struggle many people face when trying to stay legit but also have a desire or past history of fast money. It's double or nothing when you're on your last.

Yes, No
Is another track that had a great vibe, very catchy from the melody, hi hat, kicks, flow and 808s.  The hooks catchy and sets a good tone for the song... it's backed by some good bars and a catchy flow which I found myself repeating the first time I played it.
Stand Out Line: "Some work hard some work smart but I do both" this made me hype lol
"Yes I get the money on my own
No, I do not trust one of these hoes "
......................................................
Money Dance
This tracks hard, from the hard kicks to the delivery.  The flow has a very grimey feel/delivery yet its very clean and upfront. This is something you can definitely bump when you wanna feel good after you get paid or come up.
Stand Out Line:"Always trying to eat like im coming home from Church"
......................................................
Fall in Luv
Something slower for the ladies, but yet something thats not really about the ladies. Julian comes smooth with the flow which has alot of one liners which are very real, in the sense of someone might hear this and think its about them and possibly get offended.  I wouldn't doubt he gets a few texts if certain folks hear this haha
"Couldnt get a text back, now i get 100 a week, still no love for these hoes aint no love in these streets"
......................................................
When Im Alone
This track is very well put together and one of the things I've always liked about his work is the amount of one liners (as previously mentioned).  He has alot of punch lines within here that you Will catch people posting on their twitter updates...  for example:
"I was on my last but just didnt show it"
"treat the studio like a trap house"
"i just got her number but forgot her name"
"you change over money, we are not the same"
"buy our moms a crib and maybe compliment with porches"
catch my drift?
......................................................
Long Time
In this track he talks about how everything he's worked for has taken along time.  You can even take it as him speaking to himself from the future, saying "it took along time", but I made it. The beat is also very catchy and smooth with a good flow cadence to compliment it.  This might be one of my favorites.
"turned my dreams into my life, turned my dream girl into my life, that shit took a long time"
......................................................
Overall I think Gatsby was a very good project for JW.  Ive been following his music since 2014 I believe when he dropped MCM (Middle Class Minority).  Since then I've been keeping up listening to his work and am thoroughly impressed by his latest work, its consistent.   If you play Gatsby from start to finish it tells a story from start to finish.  It starts by him stating that he wants the rarri and finishes with him saying it made it, but it took a long time.
